Thou Shall Not Squat

Classes are suspended for the whole damned week and I hate that the final exams were moved to a later date. Fudge the administration. Anyway, I don’t want to go too much into the subject of the ongoing crisis because I have different opinions on the subject. Morality issues are touchy subjects with me because most of the time, I don’t agree with what you think is the RIGHT thing. Yes, it’s all upper case because that’s what the Church believes. There are absolutes in their teachings and that’s quite unfair for everyone. Why would we want to be in religions where they make the decisions for us? Don’t eat that, it’s impure. Don’t do this or else you’ll go to hell. Almost all the things WRONG are paired with a punishment and I don’t think that’s a good way to encourage the people to side with you.

I don’t want to criticize the Church, either, because I know a lot of people out there are avidly faithful, but contrary to popular belief, I actually aim my sarcasm at the Church itself and not God. No, they are not the same thing, believe me. I’m sure everyone knows about Dan Brown’s controversial ‘The Da Vinci Code’. There are some things in there that are actually true. The Catholic Church did many things in the time of the crusades and the persecution of non-Catholic people. Lots of facts were swept under the rug, especially those who made Jesus look bad. Much effort was put into polishing the Christian image so the natives would want to be controlled by opportunist priests.

Okay, I keep saying how much I don’t want to discuss this, but I do. I just don’t want you to think that I don’t believe in God. We all need a higher power to pray to and blame for all the crap in life, but those who represent Him don’t do a good job of it. Sure there are those honestly faithful ones, who would fight tooth and nail for Him, but there are also molesting priests and guys who steal the ivory off of religious statues and I won’t believe that there isn’t an insider in some cases. My point actually was on the people of the flood. The poor act victimized and the rich are shocked that natural calamities also can affect them. They must think they’re invincible or something. How long are we going to help them? Every disaster, we’re expected to give them food and clothes and places to stay, but who do you think was responsible for all of this?

I feel sorry for the innocent ones who were dragged into this mess. Squatters stay near the drains and their houses and trash block the exits for the water. Just because Manila isn’t often affected by the floods doesn’t mean that those drains are for nothing. They live under bridges and make the pathways narrow. And they have the gall to cry and complain that they didn’t deserve this? I understand that they have their losses, but they will do this again. Whenever authorities try to boot them out, they lob glass shards and shoot police officers. After this thing blows over, they’ll be back under the bridges and near the drains, too stupid to realize that they’re putting the lives of the people who have nothing to do with them at risk. There are times when the poor think they’re oppressed and discriminated against, but they use their status to do what they want. Oh, spare us; we didn’t know what we were doing. Oh, you can’t make us leave because we have nowhere to go. Oh, you have to give us relief goods because we have nothing left. Bullshit.
